Tovino Thomas directed 2018, directed by Jude Anthony Joseph, has crossed Rs 100 crores at the global box office in 11 days flat. The film had a phenomenal hold on its second Monday, again nearly matching its early Sunday issues. It was as if the movie would return to normal trending after the second Sunday, but it didn’t as it still got numbers well above normal trends. It’s hard to predict where the movie will land in its entirety, as it’s still grossing around 7 crore worldwide every day, which is more than the movie made on its opening day.
2018 went well in all areas and continues to grow
2018 brought in Rs 44 crores from its home market which is Kerala, Rs 7 crores from rest of India and around Rs 50 crores internationally. Of the roughly Rs 50 crores, the majority of the collections are from the UAE and the Gulf.
2018 is the third Mollywood film to enter the Rs 100 Crore Gross Worldwide Club
2018 is Mollywood’s third highest Rs 100 crore. It is the first non-Mohanlal film to make this list. Mollywood previously had 2 Rs 100 crore grossers, Pulimurugan and Lucifer and now there is finally a movie to give both Mohanlal film company in the elite list. 2018 not only graced the list, but is on track to become the highest-grossing Mollywood film of all time. The film will positively cross Pulimurugan in its third week or at the latest the fourth weekend. Finally, after 7 years, Mollywood will have a new all-time grosser. Almost every industry has had another pandemic after the grossest pandemic ever and now Mollywood has joined the list as well. Audiences have shown their willingness to show up for movies that give them their money’s worth and now there is a need for filmmakers to follow suit and make movies that audiences want to see on the big screen.
2018 got unanimous support from Mollywood viewers
2018 was released alongside a film that portrayed Kerala in a bad light, The Kerala Story. Naturally, Mollywood film audiences showed solidarity and unanimous support for “The Real Kerala Story”, which made it the cinematic phenomenon it has become today.
