ABC’s Utopia releases official trailer for hilarious fifth season

ABC’s hit comedy series Utopia releases official trailer and premiere date for hilarious fifth season

The ABC has released the trailer for the fifth season of their scathing public service satire Utopia, which will premiere on June 7.

Set in the fictional offices of the Nation Building Authority, the hilarious half-hour hit series takes mickey out of the cogs of government.

A new teaser sees Aussie comedy legend Rob Sitch return for the final series as beleaguered NBA CEO Tony Woodford.

And the new preview promises plenty of hilarious things as Tony, once again, seems to be struggling to complete any project amid a tangle of red tape and office politics.

At one point in the trailer, a well-meaning Tony is told by a government minion, “It doesn’t matter what we say, as long as we keep saying it.”

With a sharp eye for political correctness gone mad, the new season will see Tony and his staff face off against a statue blocking progress on a rural road construction site.

The NBA will also juggle billions of dollars this season as it tries to justify the cost of outrageous projects.

In a 2017 interview with ultra-conservative commentator Andrew Bolt on Sky, Sitch said he sometimes asks retired politicians for factual advice for the show.

The cast also includes fan favorite Celia Pacquola of Offspring, stand-up comedians Dave Lawson and Anthony Lehmann, and Have You Been Paying Attention? starring Kitty Flanagan.

Produced by the acclaimed team at Working Dog, creators of comedy classics like Frontline (1994-1997) and feature films The Castle and The Dish, Utopia is directed by Sitch himself.
