Salman Khan’s latest release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan was a hit at the box office and also failed to impress critics, trade pundits and even Salman fans. The film could only earn Rs 110.03 cr throughout its run in theaters. Film trade expert Taran Adarsh believes that although the film “recouped its cost of making” and Salman, who is also the film’s producer, also made money, the film was a “complete fall” for the superstar.
Salman in the past has delivered films that have also topped the Rs 300 cr mark (Tiger Zinda Hai, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan). So with such a record to his name, Taran said, going down to a few crores above Rs 100 cr, it’s a failure for Salman. He told Bollywood Hungama: “When you have movies like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan with Rs 300+ crore at the domestic box office, and that movie fails by leaps and bounds when it makes Rs 100+ crore, that’s a complete fall.”
Taran emphasized the “need for Salman to work with better directors and producers”. Citing the example of the hysteria that arose around his appearance in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, Taran said: “Salman should fulfill his potential. When he drops his scarf at Pathaan, people go crazy, there’s whistles and applause all around, and not just on single screens, it’s happened in multiplexes as well. So imagine the star power of this person. I’m sure Salman knows that too.
But neither the actor harnesses his star power as much as he could, nor the film directors and producers he works with. According to the trade expert, film directors and producers miss the sensitive side of Salman, who was loved in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan. He also pointed out that although Salman can work with the biggest directors, but “people’s egos are bigger”. Taran said, “People have elephantine egos, aadmi baad mein aata hai humaare yahan, ego pehle aati hai.. (People have big egos).”
The film industry analyst wants Salman to have ‘reality check’ as he added: ‘It’s high time they got reality check and it’s high time they got out of their tricks of ivory. After Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, you take films like Radhe, Race 3 and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, I mean what? Kya hai do you? (What is it even) Your fans are bound to be discouraged.
After the Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan debacle, Salman Khan fans are waiting for the release of his next one, Tiger 3, which also features a cameo appearance from Shah Rukh Khan.
