Box Office: ‘Fast X’ reaches $67.3 million in the US, $320 million worldwide

x fast is heading for a North American debut of $67.3 million and $320 million worldwide. It’s a promising start for the 10th installment in a Hollywood franchise, though the series is seeing an overall decline in US openings.

Abroad it is different. x fast is on track to clear $252.7 million on its international debut. Its worldwide opening makes it the number 2 debut of the year behind The movie Super Mario Bros. and the franchise’s #3 global opener behind The fate of the furious And Furious 7.

The action pic will easily snatch the box office crown from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3which is now in its third weekend. Guardians 3 is expected to earn an additional $32-33 million domestically.

In North America, x fast earned a B+ CinemaScore from audiences, the same rating given to F9: the fast sagawhich debuted domestically to $70 million in 2021 as the pandemic still posed a major box office challenge.

Friday’s national tally includes $7.5 million in Thursday previews at the North American box office.

Louis Leterrier is directing the popular franchise’s 10th installment (he’s also on board for the upcoming 11th and likely final installment).

Vin Diesel leads an extensive cast of familiar and new faces, including franchise stalwarts Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang and Jordana Brewster. Newcomers include Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, and Rita Moreno, who plays Diesel’s grandmother.

Nathalie Emmanuel, John Cena, Jason Statham, Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior, Scott Eastwood, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron also star.

In his review of x fast, The Hollywood Reporter‘s Frank Scheck says, “The latest installment in this surprisingly enduring series features so many existing and new characters, living and presumed dead, that even creating the roll call sheets must have been a nightmare. There are so many photos of current and former actors lovingly displayed throughout the film that you start to wonder if you’re watching an action movie or the world’s most violent bar mitzvah.

Over the many Fast movies, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outmaneuvered, pissed off, and outdone every enemy in their path. Now they face the deadliest adversary they have ever faced: a terrifying villain (Momoa) emerging from the shadows of the past who is fueled by blood vengeance and is determined to break up this family and destroy everything – and everyone – whom Dom likes. , for all time.
