The Caribbean Chefs Celebrity Brunch in Little Haiti will feature Wyclef Jean and his sister Rose Jean

A few events are happening in the city in honor of Haitian Heritage Month. Haitian Flag Day was Thursday. Saturday is the celebrity brunch of Caribbean chefs. It’s all happening at the Caribbean Marketplace in Little Haiti – and this year Wyclef Jean and his sister Chef the Rose will take the stage.

Kechi Okpala, organizer: “It’s the celebrity brunch of the chefs of the Caribbean. It is a must in the city of Miami and the Little Haiti area.

Only the best dishes will represent the islands this Saturday.

Kechi Okpala: “This year we’re featuring chefs from Haiti, Jamaica, Bahamas, Trinidad — you name it, your country will be represented. This year, we pay tribute to the legendary Wyclef Jean. It is welcome to now officially be a resident of the city of Miami.

Wyclef Jean: “I am once again very excited that Caribbean Chefs and I will be honored in Little Haiti. I am so humble.

And it’s a family affair. Clef’s sister, Chef Rose Jean, will represent Haiti at the event.

She started with her signature pâtés, and now she has a place called Pâté Bar, located inside the Polo Bar & Grill in Hollywood.

Chef Rose Jean: “I feel good to be among a host of chefs who are pioneers in the field. For the brunch itself, I serve one of my brother’s favorite dishes: it’s Jon Jon Pasta. Two things Haitians love, rice and pasta.

Wyclef Jean: “What’s amazing for me is seeing my little sister — her style and her sense of entrepreneurship, and not taking anything for granted. Everything she learned comes from me.

Of course, big brother Wyclef takes all the credit for the kitchen.

Wyclef Jean: “Actually, I taught my sister as Wyclef Jean. Now, of course, she will deny it.

Chef Rose Jean: “I have, like, horror stories where he cooked for me when I was little. But I can say that it is quite supportive.

With a musician and a chef in the family, Miami is lucky to have them both.

Chef Rose Jean: “I don’t think you can have one without the other.

Chefs of the Caribbean Celebrity Brunch is free to the community with an RSVP.
