10 years later, these Indie Sleaze boots are still a celebrity hit

The 1460 boots were first introduced as work boots and worn by postal workers and factory workers, but have since become an essential item for anyone with a keen eye; They have been worn by generations of rockstars like The Clash, The Who and Elton John. The Jadon boot, meanwhile, has had a life of its own. They first started gaining traction in Asia, but have since become a true global hit for the label as well. “Young people in Japan were leaning into genderless clothing — the alternative was becoming more inclusive, and we felt instinctively that we had a duty to provide shoes for those communities,” McKoy says. “While we expected the Jadon boot to be big, it went massive.”

It helps that the A-listers embraced the boot from the start. An early adoptee in the 2010s was model and it girl Agyness Deyn, who served as Dr. Martens’ constant muse over the years. “It really felt like part of the design team – a real partnership, which saw her build and create a new collection including creepers, knee highs and the now famous Quad sole,” says McKoy . Miley Cyrus wore them during her bangerz era with various indie sleaze outfits (like leggings and a military shirt); Today, Olivia Rodrigo has used them to accessorize her grungy ’90s looks, pairing them with a plaid mini skirt. Even Bella Hadid got in on the action and paired the boots with casual sporty hobbies.

The fact that so many stars have embraced the Jadon boot is a testament to its versatility. Thanks to its sleek shape, it can be dressed up and down, and it gives virtually any ensemble an instant edgy feel. Throughout the decade, the Jadon boot has evolved and now comes in white and red colourways, as well as vegan or printed leather, and even extended size ranges for men (Lil Nas X recently wore his pair black with a blue snakeskin jacket and pants). “We designed many more variations of Jadon boots from there,” McKoy says of the new style interpretations. “Scrub leathers that reveal unexpected colors and hues that have deepened with age, vintage leathers and of course sequins, studs, chains, etc.”

It’s clear that the boot continues to be a fan favourite, but the question is, will the Jadon boots now survive another 10 years? McKoy hints that Dr. Martens has “two huge collaborations in the fall,” which will help keep the buzz going. Something tells us that the Jadon boot is also on its way to becoming a shoe classic forever.
