Fast-en your seat belts. It’s about to be a bumpy ride. x fast, the latest in Universal’s thrill-seeking franchise is about to cross the starting line in the race for box office supremacy this weekend. The film is expected to open to $60 million or more in North America and at least $220 million at the international box office. Early indications are that the addition of Jason Momoa while the franchise’s new villain, Dante, will be a big factor in attracting audiences for the new director Louis Leterrier.
Based on these initial numbers, Fast X — which is supposed to be the penultimate film in the series – is in pole position to capture around $280 million in its first weekend of release worldwide. Initial national projections are just below those for 2021 F9, which opened at $70 million and ended its run with $173 million domestic. However, the film was hampered by COVID restrictions while attendance was still limited due to capacity throttling and audiences’ lack of desire to leave their homes.
The franchise remains extremely popular at the international box office. F9 and the spin-off with Dwayne Johnson And Jason Statham, Hobbs and Shawboth reached $550 million overseas, while those in 2017 Fate of the Furious passed the billion dollar mark, and x fastThe mammoth production budget of $340 million means the film will need to hit some pretty high speeds to recoup that money.

x fast brings back recurring cast members Wine Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, And Scott Eastwood. Besides Momoa, the cast of newcomers also includes The Suicide SquadIt is Daniela Melchior, Brie Larson Alan Richson, Helen Mirren, and Puerto Rican legend Rita Moreno as Dom’s grandmother.
x fast is the first chapter of a two-part story that should bring the franchise to an end. x fast will be the first part of a two-part story that will conclude the Fast and Furious franchise after two decades. After writing and directing the previous episode, F9: The fast saga, Justin Lin was to be on board behind the camera for the last two films in the franchise. However, after disagreements on set, Lin stepped down from the director’s chair, being replaced by Leterrier, the French director best known for his work on The Incredible Hulk And The carrier series with Fast Statham star.
