‘Fast X’ Races to a $280 Million Opening Weekend at the Global Box Office

Fast-en your seat belts. It’s about to be a bumpy ride. x fast, the latest in Universal’s thrill-seeking franchise is about to cross the starting line in the race for box office supremacy this weekend. The film is expected to open to $60 million or more in North America and at least $220 million at the international box office. Early indications are that the addition of Jason Momoa while the franchise’s new villain, Dante, will be a big factor in attracting audiences for the new director Louis Leterrier.

Based on these initial numbers, Fast X — which is supposed to be the penultimate film in the series – is in pole position to capture around $280 million in its first weekend of release worldwide. Initial national projections are just below those for 2021 F9, which opened at $70 million and ended its run with $173 million domestic. However, the film was hampered by COVID restrictions while attendance was still limited due to capacity throttling and audiences’ lack of desire to leave their homes.

The franchise remains extremely popular at the international box office. x fast brings back recurring cast members Wine Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, And Scott Eastwood.
