THE Five nights at Freddy’s The horror game series may be reaching its tenth anniversary, but for a huge market – mostly kids, though they were never the original target audience – it’s still a massive deal. Which, alongside older gamer nostalgia, might explain why only NOW East FNaF get a movie.

The movie, which hits theaters in October, just dropped its first trailer, and if nothing else, it looks incredibly faithful to the source material:
The film follows a struggling security guard as he starts working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. As he spends his first night on the job, he realizes that the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy going.
This movie took a long time to come! Not just because the franchise itself is so old, but because plans for a big-screen adaptation date back to 2015, when we first published that Warner Bros. was interested in doing itwith Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment (Run all night, the ring, The Grudge) attached, as well as Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions (Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter And Pride and prejudice and zombies).
This project died two years later, when the creator of the series Scott Cawthorn posted on Steam in February 2017:
Hi guys,
I know I promised some movie news by the end of the month, so here it is. However, keep in mind that there are still very important discussions going on, so the amount of information I can share is extremely limited. In fact, even the information I may share will have to remain somewhat encrypted.
The reality is that over the past year, the FNaF movie has encountered several delays and hurdles, some involving issues within the film industry as a whole. As a result, from now on, the film is back to square one.
However, depending on your perspective, this is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s bad because the movie is still in its early stages (so don’t expect a trailer anytime soon), but it’s good because I want to make sure the right movie gets made, and things are on track right now for that to happen.
I’m also going to be involved in the film from day one this time around, and that’s something extremely important to me. I want this movie to be something that I can’t wait for fans to see.
The film has since found its way to Universal, surviving everything from personnel changes (although Cawthorn remained attached throughout) to script issues.
Five nights at Freddy’s stars Josh Hutcherson (The hunger Games) as Mike Schmidt, while Matthew Lillard (!) and Mary Stuart Masterson (!!) will also appear. It hits theaters on October 27, with a simultaneous release on the NBC/Universal Peacock streaming service.
