Five Nights At Freddy’s is one of many video game series getting the adaptation treatment right now, and after years of waiting, fans finally got their first look at the project via a trailer this weekend. -end. The problem is, the trailer wasn’t supposed to drop yet, and now the person who leaked it is desperately trying to reverse their mistake, profusely apologizing and claiming they put the trailer in the world in advance “for the people”.
TheRealSullyG shared the leaker’s two-minute apology video (thanks, Insider Gaming) during which they manage to say a lot of things, some of which are probably a little misguided. “I’m here to apologize. Of course, there is nothing I can do now to remedy the situation. It’s on Twitter, it’s on Youtube, a billion reposts, it’s on Reddit now,” says the backer.
It was actually on Reddit that FNAF creator Scott Cawthon expressed his disappointment that the trailer found its way online before it was supposed to. Cawthon revealed he was at an amusement park with his family when the leak happened and tried to ignore it until he got home. The only silver lining was the reluctance of other streamers and FNAF fans to share the trailer, although despite Universal’s best efforts, since this is the internet, it’s still there.
As for the leaker and some of those ill-advised comments, they openly admit that they signed, then broke, an NDA, and released the trailer early for views, attention, and internet influence. They even resign themselves to the likely imminent legal action to come thanks to Cawthon, Universal, and Blumhouse. Judging by the video and some of the comments they made there, I can’t imagine they’ve spoken to a lawyer about any of this just yet despite what’s almost definitely to come.
The long-awaited reveal of the first trailer for the FNAF movie would have been something that everyone was very excited about. The revelation that the series would get a movie actually predates the hype generated by adaptations like The Last Of Us and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, getting its first announcement in 2015. The project has since restarted and hit roadblocks. , including issues surrounding creator Cawthon who quit the video game industry after it was revealed he had donated to far-right, anti-LGBTQ Republicans.
