A leaked trailer for Five Nights at Freddy hints at a terrifying adaptation, expanding the game’s universe with a talented cast and a journey into Freddy’s origins.

Update: The leaked FNAF trailer has since been removed by NBC Universal, who blocked it for “copyright reasons.” This latest action possibly confirms the authenticity of the leak ahead of the film’s October 2023 release date.

The long-awaited film adaptation of the popular video game series, Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF) has seen another twist in its tumultuous development journey. A leaked trailer has surfaced online, giving eager fans a taste of what the movie has in store. While we can’t confirm the authenticity of the leaked trailer, it appears to feature Josh Hutcherson as the protagonist, Mike Schmidt, a security guard who unwittingly takes on a nightmarish night shift at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

Directed by Emma Tammi, the FNAF film boasts a talented cast, including Matthew Lillard as William Afton, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa, Mary Stuart Masterson as Female Villain, Kat Conner Sterling as Max, and Piper Rubio as Abby. The leaked trailer features Hutcherson’s character monitoring Freddy’s CCTV cameras, only to find animatronics come to life and terrorize the establishment. The film also seems to expand beyond the confines of the pizzeria, delving into the dark lore behind the origins of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is slated for release before Halloween this year, but was originally announced in 2015, facing numerous delays due to creative differences between the studio and game creator Scott Cawthon. In particular, this includes several scripts that were scrapped before production began after Cawthon allegedly insisted on giving full approval. The project has also seen many personalities leave over the years, further complicating its development. Cawthon’s eventual exit from the game industry in 2021 then raised questions about the film’s future, although it appears Cawthon remained actively involved in the film’s production.

Although lacking in quality and substance, the leaked FNAF trailer does at least offer a glimpse of what the character Springtrap, an animatronic who first appeared in the third installment of the game series, could potentially be. This suggests that the film can draw from several titles in the franchise. While the legitimacy of the leaked trailer remains unclear (Update: NBC Universal has removed the trailer, supporting the trailer’s legitimacy), it undeniably provides a tantalizing preview of the movie Five Nights at Freddy’s. Fans of the game series will surely be on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the official release of the film, which has taken years to prepare.
