Sony Pictures has released the first dramatic trailer for Gran Turismothe film based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, a British racing driver who began his career playing Gran Turismo video games, before being inducted into the GT Academy “from virtual to reality”.
From humble beginnings, Mardenborough became a professional racing driver, using many skills he learned from Gran Turismo take their place in the racing world. Since becoming the youngest winner of the GT Academy competition in 2011, he has competed in the European Formula 3 Championship, the grueling 24 Hours of Le Mans, Super GT, Super Formula Championship and World Championship FIA Endurance Race.
Gran Turismo will dramatize his rise to the racetrack – apparently, with a fair amount of dipping into his past as a sim racing fan.

The film stars Archie Madekwe (Noon) like Mardenborough, and he’s accompanied by David Harbor (strange things) as Coach Jack Salter and Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings) as Danny Moore, a motorsport marketing executive inspired by the real-life founder of GT Academy.
The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp, who is known for his work on dystopian fiction films like District 9 And Elysium.
In a recent interview with PlayStation Blog, Blomkamp spoke of his enthusiasm for the film, expressing his surprise that his work could be uplifting and inspiring – given that his films generally tend towards nihilism.
“My stuff tends to be a lot darker and more dystopian…but this movie was, well, very inspiring,” Blomkamp said. “It never occurred to me that I would make a film where the audience would leave the theater feeling uplifted and inspired. That really appealed to me.
“Usually there’s someone exploding or some genetically mutated creature running amok in my movies. I just never would have thought in a billion years that I’d be making a racing/sports movie. C It is even surprising now to say so.
Blomkamp’s unique perspective will certainly inject Gran Turismo with pep and originality. Although seemingly dramatic, the film’s high-speed car races and intriguing real-life story inspire strong curiosity for this adaptation.
Gran Turismo will hit theaters worldwide in August 2023.
