GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 passes $300 million at the worldwide box office

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was released last Friday (earlier in some overseas locations), and while the film was slightly below its domestic box office estimates at $118 million, it exceeded expectations internationally.

James Gunn’s emotional trio earned an additional $8.9 million in the United States and $20.5 million overseas on Monday to bring their worldwide total to $318.7 million.

Marvel Studios’ previous Phase 5 movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, opened a little stronger, but suffered a massive second-week drop from which it never managed to recover. Much better reviews and a positive WOM should play a part in keeping audiences seated for Flight. 3 at the moment, but it will soon face fierce competition from x fast and Disney The little Mermaid.

As it stands, analysts predict that GOTG Vol. 3 should end its theatrical run slightly above or slightly below Flight. 2, but it is obviously much too early to say for sure.

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, with Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt and Sara Smith are the executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now in theaters.
