‘Meg 2: The Trench’ Trailer Reveals Jason Statham Takes On A Trio Of Megalodons

Jason Statham versus a prehistoric shark, round two. It’s both simple and compelling conceit, and that’s all we really need to know about. Meg 2: The trench. However, the first official trailer, released in the wild by Warner Bros., gives us even more reason to head to theaters in August. That’s the magic of summer movies, when the absurdity of a given premise is just the start of the fun. Just like the original mega made in 2018, mega 2 not only nods with love Jaws, he then offers a shark that would eat this original summer movie icon as a light appetizer.

The trailer opens with a snapshot of life in prehistoric times, where even an apparent apex predator like the T-Rex was no match for the undisputed alpha apex of them all, the megalodon, the most great shark to have ever roamed the waters. In director John Turteltaub’s 2018 original, Statham starred as Jonas Taylor, a rescue diver who rescued the crew of a damaged nuclear submarine that was being attacked by an unidentified creature. You can guess what this creature was. Eventually, Jonas joined a search party exploring the deepest parts of the Mariana Trench where the Megalodon fully identified, and it was up to Jonas to rescue them (and many others) before the shark giant does not reassert its dominance over the world. .

Director Ben Wheatley helms the sequel to the surprise 2018 hit, with Statham reprising his role as the rescue diver tested by Meg. This time, Jonas will face not just one Meg but three of them, and now they hunt in packs. The trailer also reveals that while the Meg(s) will remain the main event, there will be a host of other deep-sea creatures in the spotlight, including a giant squid that makes short work of a helicopter. Yes, you read that right.

In sum, Meg 2: The Trench is precisely the kind of summer movie you are looking for; tall, bold and leaning fearlessly into his own stupidity.
