  • Lord told Insider that she traveled the world with her clients and spent several weeks on a cruise ship.

  • She said one client didn’t allow her to say no to her child, while another gave her a butler.

Kathryn Lord is a British author and nanny who has already spent many years traveling the world with billionaire clients.

Lord is the author of the 2019 children’s education book “There are more books than reading” and the 2022 book “More organization”. She told Insider that both books were recognized by the late Queen Elizabeth and the Princess of Wales after she sent them copies and they responded with private letters.

Lord is considered an expert in childcare, as she has a Masters in Education from Durham University and she often gives workshops on the subject. Her expertise is also partly due to her experience as a nanny.

Lord told Insider that while she is currently a part-time nanny, she was previously a full-time nanny and several of her former clients were billionaires.

Lord said working with billionaire families often involves travel, and she would circumnavigate the world first class with the family’s private chef to their various residences. Some of those jobs were long-term, she said, including a family she was employed for about two and a half years that owned residences around the world.

Others were short-term, including a two-week stay on a cruise ship in northern Europe. Lord said she was able to visit South Africa, Italy, the Maldives, various remote islands and many other places while working for these families.

Lord shared with Insider the craziest things she’s witnessed on the job.

Lord said a parent gave her her credit card and told her she wasn’t allowed to refuse anything the child asked for

Lord said a client she worked for about 14 years ago gave her her credit card, which was specifically for the child, and told her she “wasn’t allowed to say no. to any of the child’s requests.

“I didn’t leave him everything he asked for,” Lord said. “But money was not a problem for them.”

A family had a private chef and masseuse

Lord said one family she worked for had a 24-hour watch leader and the family would wake them up in the middle of the night if they were hungry. They also had a private masseuse who lived nearby, she added.

Lord said she had to get used to being served by butlers

Lord said that some of the holidays she has taken with one of her clients have involved being served by butlers, which she finds it hard to get used to.

“It was a little weird for me because obviously I’m there to take care of the kids, but I’m told to sit down and be served and I don’t like being served too much,” he said. she stated.

“But that’s the dynamic, and it happens,” she added.

Looking back, Lord said he would only change one thing about the experience.

Lord said she truly enjoys working for billionaire families and looking back on the experience, there is only one thing she would change and that would be to recognize the value of her own time.

“My time is always worthy. I think some families — not all — have taken advantage of my time and kindness,” Lord said.

“So with some families, I felt like I couldn’t say no, so I worked longer hours. Then that leads to burnout and fatigue, and you can’t do your work properly. At the end of the day, you’re there for the kids, and if you’re wiped out, you can’t support them in the best way possible,” she added.
