Warner Bros. released a first look at the upcoming shark attack sequel Meg 2: The Trench during CinemaCon today, and attendees seem to be pretty impressed with the footage.
Journalist Jeff Sneider tweets: “WB should just rename THE MEG 2 to THE HIT, because that’s what it’s gonna be. She is hungry and comes back for a few seconds! Creatures have escaped an intact underwater ecosystem and are wreaking havoc on our world. The trailer is set to Barracuda.”
Eric Goldman adds: “…trailer of The mega 2…begins with a Meg killing a dinosaur. They hunt in packs this time! Statham fights them! I’m so in!”
Rob Keyes writes:MEG 2: The Trench The trailer has the same exaggerated laughs and madness as the first. The Megs hunt in packs, there’s a dinosaur flashback, Jason Statham holds one back with his foot, there’s even a giant octopus or a Kraken. I do not even know.

“The trailer opens with two prehistoric earth monsters eating a large insect, with on-screen text warning that for 65 million years one species ruled the world. The T-rex? No, the Meg eating a T-rex Jason Statham is once again recruited by Cliff Curtis to hunt another giant creature in the trench.
“But then, deep underwater, the team starts getting caught by the biggest Meg we’ve ever seen. Then we get various monsters attacking by land and sea, Statham almost getting eaten by a We get more scenes of nearly eaten tourists and a tentacled creature eating a helicopter.The teaser ends with Statham leaping through the air on a jet ski to take on a shark with a sword.
Meg 2: The Trench will swim in theaters on August 4, 2023.
In other news, Chinese mega-star Wu Jing (The Wandering Earth) joined the cast.
Jason Statham will return as Jonas Taylor in director Ben WheatleyIt is (kill list, Tourists, A field in England, High Rise, Rebecca, in the dirt) next sequel to the 2018 action-horror film The megawith Cliff Curtis, Sophia Cai And Kennedy Page.
Siena Guillory (Resident Evil: Afterlife), skyler samuels (“Scream Queens”) and Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Rambo: Last Blood) are the other new faces in the sequel from Warner Bros.
The sequel script was written by Dean Georgaris and Jon & Erich Hoeber.
Jon Turteltaub The megaby Steve Alten mega novels, hit theaters in 2018, devouring over $500 million at the global box office. Jason Statham starred as heroic shark killer Jonas Taylor, a member of a group of scientists exploring the Mariana Trench who encounter the greatest marine predator that has ever existed – the megalodon.
